Strategic Discussion between ISI and the National Defence Council (Dewan Pertahanan Nasional / DPN), 18 June 2025

On 18 June 2025, a strategic dialogue was held between the Institute for Strategic Initiatives (ISI) and the National Defence Council (Dewan Pertahanan Nasional / DPN).

The ISI delegation was led by members of the Board of Advisors — Dr. Muhammad Hadianto and RADM (Ret.) Dr. Surya Wiranto, S.H., M.H. — accompanied by Co-Director for External Engagement and Partnership, Aira R. Kusumasomantri. DPN was represented by its leadership and team (jajaran), including Brigadier General TNI Ari Yulianto, S.I.P., M.H.I. (Deputy for Geostrategy), Dr. Begi Hersutanto, S.H., M.A. (Deputy for Geopolitics), and Dr. Yayat Ruyat, M.Eng. (Deputy for Geoeconomics).

During the discussion, both parties explored potential areas for strategic collaboration to enhance the resilience and capabilities of Indonesia’s defence sector. The conversation underscored the importance of adopting an integrated, multidimensional approach — combining economic considerations, geopolitical analysis, and security frameworks — to better inform national defence strategies and policy development.

The meeting marked a positive step toward deeper institutional cooperation, and both ISI and DPN look forward to continuing this important dialogue in the future.
