On May 2-3, 2024, Indo-Pacific Strategic Intelligence (ISI) and Observer Research Foundation (ORF) from India signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at JW Marriot Kuningan Jakarta as part of the Jakarta Futures Forum event series. The forum aims to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia while exploring new collaboration potentials towards Indonesia Emas 2045 and India Maju 2047.
ISI is an Indonesian think tank focused on defense and foreign policy issues. It was launched with the mission of being a "Force Multiplier to Support Foreign Policy and Good Governance in the Defense Ecosystem" on March 8, 2024, in Jakarta. The MoU between ISI and ORF agrees on collaborative activities such as workshops, research, conferences, and facilitating institutional cooperation and network development with stakeholders in defense and foreign policy in both countries.
"This Memorandum of Understanding is the second for ISI, following the first one with the Defense University. In a short time, ISI as a startup think tank has expanded its partnerships with universities and think tanks both inside and outside Indonesia, especially in the Indo-Pacific region," said ISI's Executive Director, Dr. Curie Maharani.
Curie mentioned that the Indo-Pacific is a highly dynamic region where Indonesia and India play a strategic role in shaping the future of the Indo-Pacific region. Both countries are middle powers with the capacity to act as driving forces in creating initiatives to maintain regional stability and security. India's Act East Policy also demonstrates India's desire to strengthen cooperation with Southeast Asian countries.
ORF is recognized as one of India's leading think tanks in economics, strategy, security, and governance. In 2023, ORF was ranked as the 20th best think tank globally according to the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report. The collaboration between ISI and ORF is expected to open up opportunities for cooperation in various fields, including publications, research, researcher exchanges, and data dissemination.
