Jakarta, 2 July 2026 – Indo Pacific Strategic Intelligence (ISI) welcomed a delegation from the Australian Department of Defence, led by Amb. Bernard Philip, First Assistant Secretary, International Policy Division, and Ms. Alanna McKay, Assistant Secretary, Southeast Asia Branch. The delegation was welcomed by ISI Founder and Chairman of the Advisory Council, Dr. Muhammad Hadianto, Director of Research and Development, Dr. Ian Montratama, and Advisor on Defense Strategy and Industry LTG (Ret) Dr. Yoedhi Swastanto.
The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange perspectives on the evolving global landscape, including technological disruption, economic uncertainty, and shifting geopolitical dynamics, as well as their implications for regional peace and stability. Discussions also covered shared security interests between Indonesia and Australia, the implementation of the Jakarta Treaty, and opportunities to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the defense industry.
Recognizing their roles as middle powers in the Indo-Pacific, both sides reaffirmed the importance of working together to promote a safe, secure, and stable regional order. The dialogue underscored the value of maintaining open and constructive exchanges, not only between ISI and Australian counterparts through research, strategic dialogue, and other mutually beneficial initiatives. Such cooperation is expected to contribute to deeper policy discussions and strengthen networks among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers.
ISI expressed its appreciation to the Australian Department of Defence for the productive exchange and looked forward to further strengthening cooperation in support of a resilient, peaceful, and cooperative Indo-Pacific region.
